MAJ (Retired) William Thompson Recognized for Outstanding Achievement

Major (Retired) William Thompson, a founding member of NGS, has been with the company since its start up in 2012. Not only has he served NGS well for over a decade, but he has also demonstrated faithful service to the United States and the State of Tennessee. He received his 2nd Meritorious Service Medal for over 20 years of tenure to the 230th Sustainment Brigade, progressing through positions garnering more responsibility to his Soldiers and his unit. From a platoon leader on his first tour in Iraq to his position as commander of a transportation company during his third tour to Iraq, William's leaders characterize his devotion to the welfare of his Soldier unparalleled. While his position as a Section Chief during domestic operations was, by comparison, less dangerous, he took on all challenges with the same tenacity. He also received The Tennessee National Guard Distinguished Service Medal for his service from September 7, 2000 to May 31, 2022. A long, illustrious career of over 20 years marked by accomplishment after accomplishment.

Daphne and I started this endeavor 10 years ago on the foundation of a 30-year friendship and a common mission to do the most interesting, challenging, and meaningful work possible in a supportive environment. Ten years later, I can truly say we have achieved that mission! We are going strong with the most talented team we have ever assembled and the most exciting and diversified portfolio of work I have had in my career. NuGlobal is excited to introduce our newest member, Philine Tullius! Philine, a native of Germany, will be joining us from Georgetown, TX. As you can see she fits right in with the rest of the NuGlobal dog lovers! She has a M.S. from Texas A&M in Water Management and Hydrological Sciences. Her experience with modeling saltwater intrusion and the interaction of surface water and groundwater will be valuable assets as she supports our expanding climate change services. Young, innovative, and international, NuGlobal is growing strong!

The Battelle Conference on Innovations in Climate Resilience was held in Columbus, Ohio on March 29 & 30, 2022. The conference, presented in collaboration with Department of Energy National Laboratories, offered a curated technical program with invited keynote presentations, platform and lightning talks, and a poster reception. Kandi Brown was invited to present the platform presentation titled JBLE-Langley Case Study: Increasing Adaptive Capacity through Natural and Engineered Solutions. NuGlobal continues to set an example for engaging actively with the world-wide community to address changes in our climate and provide effective, practical solutions to the greatest challenges of our time.

MAJ Thompson was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for exceptionally meritorious service as Team Senates Liaison Officer (LNO) from January 14 to January 23, 2021. William served in Washington, DC, to ensure participants and attendees of the 59th Presidential Inauguration were safe and secure. His dedication to duty greatly contributed to the overwhelming mission success.

NGS is happy to present our new program, Biodiversity in Our Backyard (BOB)! As a leader in Climate Change, we want to encourage and support NGS employees to increase the biodiversity in their neighborhoods. To further this goal, we have established BOB. NGS will reimburse any employees for the cost of native seeds and plants they wish in plant. Scout McLerran, NGS Biologist, has created a valuable guide to illustrate which plants are needed in your zip codes, how to care for them, what species they support, and where these plants can be purchased near you. NuGlobal Solutions (NGS) is very proud to announce that Mary Emily Stonebridge, our GIS and IT Specialist, will be pursuing her MS in Geoscience/Environmental Geoscience at Mississippi State University in Fall 2021. Mary Emily joined NGS in 2016 as an hourly analyst and advanced to a full-time employee in 2018 after two years of demonstrated commitment to the job, valued attention to detail, and positive attitude. Additionally, she is currently leading our security and accounting support teams. Unflappable determination to getting the job done right, commitment to learning, and unmatched work ethic are just a few reasons why we know she will be a tremendous success in this program. NGS believes that formal education has a positive impact on an employee’s contribution, and we support self-development and educational efforts by providing reimbursements for many of the expenses associated with continuing education courses. Kandi Brown is a member of the Association of Climate Change Officers (ACCO) and has recently completed certification as a Climate Change Professional (CC-P®). She has demonstrated competency, experience, and performance in the fundamentals of climate change preparedness and strategic planning. More information on the CC-P program. #climatesmart

NGS is excited to announce that Theodoros Kyriakopoulos (Theo) has joined our growing group of Climate Change Specialists. Theo is a recent graduate of the University of TN and has two Master’s Degrees, one in Environmental Engineering and one in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering. He has a multidisciplinary background in Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, as well as substantial experience in HEC-RAS modeling and ArcGIS. We are excited to welcome Theo into the NGS family! Please look for future announcements concerning Theo’s pending publications on modeling of Lagrangian movement of sediment bedload in gravel-bed river.
